What director do you think had the best 'debut' movie?

The first film that they directed was the best, not the one that they
wrote the screenplay for or produced, but the one they directed. It
doesn't have to be their best movie overall, but a really good debut
movie.

For me, it is Tony Kaye's 'American History X' and Sofia Coppola's
'Virgin Suicides' that stand out for me
